Project Proposal
For my Unit 4 project, I have chosen to focus on the theme of ‘close-up’, mainly focusing on elements of nature such as flowers. I have chosen this as my theme as I think that it could produce some very interesting, detailed photographs for my final outcome. I also decided to focus on close-up as it is a technique that I have used before, meaning that I am likely to be much more confident to use and experiment with it than I possibly would be if I decided to focus on something that I was less confident about.
Throughout the course of the project, I will experiment with the use of lighting and composition to create in depth and detailed images, as they are important elements to consider when taking photographs. I will also use Photoshop to enhance my photos further, and to make them as detailed and interesting to look at as possible. I will also investigate several photographers who have produced work focusing on similar elements as I aim to explore, to give me inspiration to improve and expand the techniques I am using in my own work. These photographers included Ansel Adams and Karl Blossfeldt as they both focus on plants and aspects of nature – Blossfeldt’s photographs also tend to have an abstract feel to them, which may be something that I experiment with. Both are also black and white photographers whose photographs have a very high amount of contrast, so I may attempt to replicate these effects in my own work using Photoshop.
I think that focusing on close-up for this project could produce some interesting work if carried out properly. I hope that using Photoshop as well to enhance the contrast and focus, as well as experimenting with different and interesting photographic techniques, will add to the overall effectiveness of my final piece.
